SA on security to Niger Gov reels out mode of operation of bandits

It has been discovered that Armed bandits in Niger State usually carry out intensive initiatives on communities before launching their offensive attacks, Special adviser on security matters to the Niger State Governor, Gen(rtd) Ndagulu Abubakar Imam has indicated.
He spoke when he appeared before the Justice Danladi Ahmed Baddegi Judicial Commission of inquiry sitting in Minna.
He disclosed that 99 percent of the attacks on most of the communities were being carried out by armed bandits adding that whenever such incident occured in any of the communities, the first place to get information from is the Local Government chairman of the affected area as the chief security officer of the Local Government.
Testifying under cross examination by the counsel when he appeared before the commission, Barrister Musa Suleiman, the security adviser to Niger State Governor stated that his mandate is to advise the governor on security related issues and other matters that may pose any security threat to the state.
Equally he told the commission that his main function is to coordinate all the works of security agencies in the state whenever there is any security threat for prompt action.
Members of the Security council in the state according to the security adviser include the Governor who presides over the council meeting, commissioner of police in the state, and the director of Department of Security Services (DSS). “Other members of the security council are the Brigade commander of the Nigeria army, Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corp (NSCDC) and the Commissioner for Locals Government and Cheiftancy and Internal Security who coordinates the activities of the vigilante group in the state.
He said the meeting of the council is being held monthly or weekly as the case may be adding that at times it is being presided over by the secretary to the state Government who is also a member of the council.
Continuing he said the permanent secretary cabinet and security in the Government House serves as the secretary of the council.
According to him, he at times preside over the meeting in his capacity as the security adviser whenever the need arose stating that in an emergency when any urgent security matter crops up he presides.
Speaking further, the retired military general explained that it is at the state security council meeting that some issues relating to security are always being discussed in the presence of all the security chiefs in the state.
He added that from then the next line of action would be taken collectively.
When further cross examined by the counsel on if he had any security map to identify any security risk proned area in the state, he told the commission that as a trained military officer the only map he was familiar with, was typographical map he is not aware of any security map that identifies security risk probed area in the state.
He explained to the commission that as a retired military general of the Nigeria army the typography map was the only map that they are familiar with.
“It is the only map we use to identify any of the terrains that the enemies are located for us to move in.
He maintained that the activities of armed bandits on most of the communities are carried out through offensive attacks that is usually well coordinated.
He explained further that immediately they launched their attack they will disappear in to the forest so they cannot be trace by security agencies.
He told the commission that being a fact finding panel the outcome of the commission will reveal those behind the killings in the affected communities”
He said for him, to say this or that were behind the killings will be prejudice.
He told the commission that with their permission he will make available to them some findings that will further assist them in their work.
However, the commission could not take the submission from the chairman of Mashegu local government area Alhaji Ahmed Mazakuka as some of the memorandum expected to be submitted to the commission were not completed.
At that point, the counsel representing the council chairman Barrister Musa Suleiman then requested for a date and the chairman of the commission Justice Danladi Ahmed Baddegi then adjourned the sitting to December, 29 2021.

Police neutralize 2 suspected kidnappers in Kogi

***CP restates commitment to safety of lives, property in Kogi

The Nigeria Police, Kogi State Command has confirmed the killing of two suspected kidnappers during a gun duel in Ankumi forest, near Obajana in Lokoja Local Government Area of the state.
A statement from SP William Ovye Aya, the Command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO) on Tuesday in Lokoja said that the two suspected kidnappers were fatally wounded in an exchange of fire with the Police and died as they were being taken to the hospital.
Aya said the operation which was in continuation of the ongoing onslaught against banditry, kidnapping and other heinous crime in Kogi State also led to the recovery of one AK 47 Rifle with two magazines and two live Ammunition.
He explained that the operation was consequent upon a tip off received on Monday, May 27 at about 11:30hrs, that some armed hoodlums numbering about three were sighted inside Ankumi forest.
“Immediately the Divisional Police Officer of Obajana Division, CSP Oguche Richard, mobilized his patrol team in collaboration with the Fulani Vigilantes and moved to the area at about 14:30hrs”, he said.
According to the PPRO, on sighting the team, the hoodlums opened fire on them, attracting corresponding response from the team resulting in a gun duel that lasted a while.
Aya said, “Due to the superior firepower of the Police team, two of the hoodlums were fatally wounded while the other escaped with bullet wounds.
“Items recovered from the scene include, one AK 47 rifle with two magazines and two rounds of live Ammunition. Effort is on going to trail and apprehend the fleeing suspect.”
The Command’s Spokesman further told newsmen that the suspects were confirmed dead in a hospital at Obajana and their bodies were brought to the command headquarters in Lokoja.
He said that the bodies were deposited at the Federal University Teaching Hospital morgue in Lokoja.
Aya further said that the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Bethrand C. Onuoha, commended the officers for their unwavering commitment and dedication in sustaining the tempo in the ongoing onslaught against crime and criminality.
The Commissioner, he said, also assured Kogi people that the Police “is ever determined to sustain the tempo, in synergy with other Security Agencies, in ensuring the safety of lives and property in the state.” (Ends)

Gunmen waylay Dangote Cement bus, abduct scores of Workers In Edo

An unspecified number of workers of Dangote Cement Company Plc, Okpella, Etsako West local government of Edo state have been abducted after unknown gunmen Wayland the staff bus
The unfortunate incident was said to have happened on Monday.
The workers were in a staff bus conveying them back to Okpella town after the close of work when they were intercepted and abducted by the gunmen.
An eyewitness confirmed to this online newspaper that the incident happened after the gunmen laid ambush for the workers after emerging from the bush and forcing the bus to a halt at gunpoint before taking their victims into the bush.
“They were in a Coaster bus coming to Okpella after work when they were kidnapped by gunmen. But, we don’t know the numbers of the workers that have been kidnapped,” the source added.

Two security guards of Ajayi Crowther University in Police net over alleged rape

The alleged rape of a female student of the Ajayi Crowther University by two security guards is not being treated with kids gloves as the authorities of the institution have commenced investigations
This was contained in a statement issued by the institution’s Public Relations Officer, Olufemi John Atoyebi.
Atoyebi said, “Management of Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo received with shock a report of an alleged rape of one of our female students last night, Thursday May 9, 2024 by two members of our vigilance group.
“The Management promptly handed over to the police, the two people alleged to have committed the crime while the university has set up its own internal panel of inquiry to investigate the allegation.
“The Management wishes to assure all stakeholders that ACU will not tolerate any act of misconduct capable of tarnishing its enviable image.
“Raising Godly intellectuals is our primary goal in ACU and we will not allow any act of misconduct capable of diverting our attention from our goal.
