To unlock economic potentials in sports FG seeks collaboration with the private sector

Collaboration with the corporate and private sector organisations to unlock economic potentials of sports in the country will be a continuous agenda the Federal government of Nigeria has declared
The Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh gave the assurance on thursday in Abuja, when he met with the members of the Dream Sports Africa led by its Country Director, Mr Michael Anejo.

Mohammed Manga in a statement quoted the minister, Senator Owan Enoh to have stated that the new vision and thinking of government under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is that sports is seen as both recreation and business.
This he said, was the right approach to jumpstart the desired transformation of sports in our country.
He stated that with the new vision of government, the Ministry under his watch, will continue to keep its doors open for collaboration with relevant stakeholders, private sector investors, the civil society organisations as well as the global sports community.
This he said is necessary in order to join hands with the Federal Government in its effort to fully unlock the economic potentials of sports in Nigeria to unleash one of the most consequential transformations of the 21st century.
The Minister explained further that the sports sector has a great potential for wealth creation, employment generation, poverty alleviation, social inclusivity
and the ability to make substantial contributions to the nation’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
Senator Enoh noted that the private sector organisations have a critical role to play in unlocking these opportunities but that this huge potential has been squandered due to inaction and missed priorities.
He called on the private sector investors and major players in the industry to take advantage of the incentives put in place by the current administration to invest massively in the development of sports in Nigeria.
Besides, Enoh explained that in line with
the Renewed Hope Agenda of the present administration, the government has endorsed the National Sports Industry Policy (NSIP) approved by the immediate past administration.
According to him, the Ministry was committed to ensuring the implementation of the policy especially, in areas such as expanding and improving School Sports Games, implementing a strategic plan to define the growth path for discovered talents, improved welfare for athletes and Public Private Partnerships for upgrade of essential sports infrastructure across the country.
Speaking earlier, the Director, Dream Sports Africa, Mr Michael Anejo thanked the Honourable Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh, for accepting to meet with their organisation to discuss likely areas of collaboration that will drive Sports Development across the country in spite of his busy schedule.
He assured that his organisation will go back to the drawing board and identify critical areas it needs to partner with the Ministry and the Federal Government in its effort at ensuring the realization of the policy objectives of the present administration as it relates to sports development in line with global realities.

***Urges Super Eagles To Go For Gold

Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo of Kogi State has applauded the Super Eagles of Nigeria on their Wednesday night triumph over Bafana Bafana of South Africa and qualification for the final of the Africa Cup of Nations.
Ododo who gave the applaud in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media, Ismaila Isah on Thursday in Lokoja commended the Super Eagles for their display of resilience and the “Can-do Spirit” of Nigerians.
He said that the Eagles in the thrilling semi final encounter held their nerves throughout the game and the emotionally charged penalty shootout won by the Super Eagles 4:2.
The Governor noted that the build up to the game demonstrated the undiluted passion by which Nigerians are known to rally in defence of their country in difficult times.
Ododo equally urged all Nigerians to continue to support the Super Eagles to soar in their quest to bring home the coveted continental trophy.
“This win by the Super Eagles proves that Nigeria has what it takes to bounce back from its temporary setbacks as a nation.
“We are inspired as a country and we must all support the Super Eagles to bring home the trophy as they go against the Ivory Coast in the Final this weekend”, Governor Ododo said.
The Governor also urged all Nigerians to pray fervently for the Super Eagles to clinch the Nations Cup adding that the team needed the support of all Nigerians to bring home the trophy. (Ends)
