Nasarawa PDP demands national chairmanship position

From Daniel Abel, Lafia
The Nasarawa state’s chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stakeholders have demanded for the coveted national chairmanship position of the party.
In a statement signed by a chieftain of the party Mustapha Ibrahim Umaisha, the party emphasized that it is long overdue for Nasarawa State to be represented at the national level, citing the absence of the state’s leadership in the PDP’s top echelons as not plausible.
“In the spirit of exclusivity, it is time for Nasarawa to be at the forefront of the PDP’s leadership, a position we hardly enjoy” stated Ibrahim Umaisha, underscoring the state’s longstanding dedication to the party’s cause.
He lamented the situation in 2023 prior to the election when Nasarawa’s only advisory position within the party, BOT Chairman, held by elder statesman Sen. Walid Jibrin was relinquished amidst an internal disagreement. This selflessness should be compensated by our party members nationwide after all, we played our part as loyal party members.
“They compared Nasarawa’s lack of representation with neighbouring states like Benue, which had enjoyed the chairmanship position thrice, Kwara, Kogi and Plateau states in the North central who have taken their turns.
The statement indicated that all positions zoned to the North Central have always been taken by their brothers in Niger, Benue, Kwara among others adding that they have been very happy for them.
“It is imperative to acknowledge Nasarawa’s loyalty to both national and state politics,” asserted the group, highlighting the state’s significant role and gains in recent electoral contests which produced a senator and half of the state legislators, and even went ahead to win the gubernatorial contest but was denied by the courts and not the people. We need encouragement.”
The party chieftain argued that the state showcases qualified and distinguished individuals as potential candidates for the national chairmanship position, but would rather its last gubernatorial candidate, Dr. David Emmanuel Ombugadu, described as a dynamic and impactful leader with a
track record speaks volumes about his ability to drive positive change within our party,” remarked Mr
Umaisha.
He added that Hon. Dr. David Ombugadu is a popular figure with local and national acclaim.
“David Ombugadu embodies the essence of effective leadership, garnering admiration and respect beyond Nigeria’s borders,” affirmed Ibrahim.
He described Ombugadu as a mobiliser, community organiser, and a development expert attributes which can greatly impact the party’s fortunes.
Adding his voice, Engr KB Mohammed from Keffi asserted that anything short leadership position for the state at the national level would be injustice.
“It is imperative that Nasarawa’s contributions and potential are recognised within the party’s leadership structure,” concluded Mohammed said, echoing the sentiments of other members of the group.
As the clamour for representation grows louder, all eyes are on the PDP caucus to heed the call for exclusivity and fairness within the party’s ranks, and Ombugadu is the answer”.

Insubordination: Governor Sule reads riot act to political appointees

From Daniel Abel, Lafia
Apparently piqued by the level of disloyalty and insubordination being displayed by political appointees in governor Abdullahi Sule’s cabinet ahead of 2027, the governor has read the riot act for those who may dare him.
Sule gave the indication in a letter signed by the Secretary to the Government of Nasarawa State, Barrister Mohammed Ubandoma dated April 16th, 2024.
According to the letter, “political appointees seeking to run for any political office are advised to either resign their appointments or wait until the lifting of the existing ban on political activities by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
“While noting with dismay how some political office holders under the present administration are actively participating in political activities, including active campaign, Sule noted that such elements and conducts is capable of breaching the electoral act, as well as distracting the focus of his administration.
Sule who could no longer cope with outrageous drumming of support to persons that are not his anointed candidate for 2027, warned that such appointees maybe shown the way out of his cabinet if they persist.
He warned that his administration would no longer condone such acts of disloyalty and insubordination from political appointees.
The governor who felt demeaned and distracted with only one year into the second tenure stated that he is focused on the delivery of infrastructural development, economic empowerment, and sustainable development of the state.
