Enoh commends President Tinubu over approval of N12b owed Athletes, other officials

The Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh commended to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the recent approval of a substantial N12b disbursement to address the outstanding backlog owed to Nigeria’s National Teams, Coaches and other officials.
Director, Press and Public Relations, Mohammed Manga in a statement quoted the Minister to have indicated that the approval will boost the mood of the Super Eagles, ahead of the African Cup of Nations and other international competitions.

Senator Owan Enoh explained
that the payment encompasses the settlement of senior national team coaches’ salaries spanning 15 months, as well as the disbursement of bonuses owed to both senior and junior national teams (male and female).

He pointed out that the financial injection was timely as it arrived just when the preparations of the Super Eagles for the AFCON struck top gear.

The Minister thanked the President for approving the funds, noting that it reflects his love for sports, adding that the approval not only serves as a morale booster for the teams involved but also underscores government’s dedication to fostering excellence in Nigerian Sports on the continental stage.

“This is a clear indication of Mr. President’s commitment to sports development. This also explains why he made Sports Development a stand alone Ministry so as to pay closer attention to its pertinent issues. On behalf of the Ministry and the NFF, I thank President Bola Ahmed Tinubu” Senator Owan Enoh said.

The Minister assured President Bola Ahmed Tinubu that the team would do everything within its powers to make the nation proud at the continental showpiece.

He assured further that the Ministry under his watch will continue to ensure the full implementation of the policies, initiatives and programmes that will drive the development of the sports industry, not only in line with the global realities but also with the
Renewed Hope Agenda of the present administration.

Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo of Kogi State has applauded the Super Eagles of Nigeria on their Wednesday night triumph over Bafana Bafana of South Africa and qualification for the final of the Africa Cup of Nations.

Ododo who gave the applaud in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media, Ismaila Isah on Thursday in Lokoja commended the Super Eagles for their display of resilience and the “Can-do Spirit” of Nigerians.

He said that the Eagles in the thrilling semi final encounter held their nerves throughout the game and the emotionally charged penalty shootout won by the Super Eagles 4:2.

The Governor noted that the build up to the game demonstrated the undiluted passion by which Nigerians are known to rally in defence of their country in difficult times.

Ododo equally urged all Nigerians to continue to support the Super Eagles to soar in their quest to bring home the coveted continental trophy.

“This win by the Super Eagles proves that Nigeria has what it takes to bounce back from its temporary setbacks as a nation.

“We are inspired as a country and we must all support the Super Eagles to bring home the trophy as they go against the Ivory Coast in the Final this weekend”, Governor Ododo said.

The Governor also urged all Nigerians to pray fervently for the Super Eagles to clinch the Nations Cup adding that the team needed the support of all Nigerians to bring home the trophy. (Ends)
