Former Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC) Chairman between 2014 – 2015, Dr Yunusa Tanko has berated Governor Dave Umahi over the political rascality in Ebony State where the incumbent speaker Mr Francis Nwifuru under the platform of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has picked the All Progressives Congress (APC) forms to contest the Party’s Governorship for 2023.
Speaking at a press Conference on Sunday in Abuja Dr. Tanko said what becomes disturbing is that Umahi has already anointed Mr Nwifuru as the next Governor of Ebonyi state under the flag of the APC .
According to Tanko, as reported by an online television, Umahi was quoted to have said that he is the only person that could do anti party activities, he is in APC as well as PDP, while he could be in both, his people should stay put in PDP.
He therefore called on President Muhammad Buhari and the National chairman of the APC Abdullahi Adamu not to allow the Zamfara experience repeat itself in the case of Ebonyi.
According to him,
“Democracy is a game of numbers and the collective will of the people to choose who they believe can lead them aright, through free and fear elections.
“In our case leaders play demigods , they decide for the people who will lead them with high level of impunity without remorse .
“The speaker in question has never left the PDP in fact, he has sworn to an affidavit as member of the PDP till June 23 in a Suit NO HAB/31/2022 at the High Court of Abakaliki Ebonyi state dated 05/05/22 as we speak, he is preparing his document to run for Governor under the APC, while sitting as a speaker of the Ebonyi State assembly under the PDP.
Tanko reiterated that it is the fundamental right of anyone to join a political party of his or her choice but it must be done within law and order.

“The high level of impunity is unprecedented. This is another political nomadism in a classic dimension , he is enjoying the platform of PDP to climb on the APC seat of the Governor in APC.
“We as defenders of democracy can not sit and watch our democracy be dragged in to the mud. We will challenge it. We also call on the people of Ebonyi state to rise up to the challenge.

“It is my humble believe that President Muhammadu Buhari and Adamu Abdullahi, the current chairman of the APC will not allow thunder to strike them twice like what happened to the Party in Zamfara State in 2019.
“We urge INEC to take note of what is happening in Ebonyi state please, and protect our Democracy. We raise this Alarm in the defense of our Democracy.”
