Clark says if he dies by dubious means, it will spell doom

***Army invades, destroys my homes in Kiagbodo, Ughelli over Okuoma massacre

…Asks Delta Governor to investigate gruesome murder of 17 soldiers

Elderstatesman, Chief Edwin Clark has indicated that should he die of a natural cause it will be a joyful celebration however, but if his death is linked to any dubious means by some overzealous state actors, no one can tell how far the fire will rage.
The 97 year old leader of the Ijaw nation spoke when he raised grievous concern on Tuesday over the invasion of his country home in Kiagbodo and his father’s house in Ughelli, both in Delta State, leaving both structures in a heavily damaged state.
He said his declaration is not a threat but an acknowledgment of God’s mercies on me.
Clark who raised the alarm at a Press Conference in his Abuja residence said the soldiers forcefully broke into the two residential buildings allegedly in search of of fleeing perpetrators of the Okuoma massacre where senior and junior military personnel were gruesomely murdered recently.

He demanded the establishment of a commission of enquiry to probe the entire incidences.

Clark wondered why the Delta State Government was not being carried along in the ongoing military operation in the area, claiming that the attacks on his country homes would have been averted if the state government was part of the exercise.

He said, “A strong commission of enquiry should be set up by the Delta State Government to find out who bare the real perpetrators of the heinous crime.”

The Ijaw national leader narrated how the destrucive attacks were carried out on his home and that of his father.
He said, “At about 6pm on Saturday, 23rd March, 2024, I got a telephone call from someone who identified himself as the commanding officer in the Nigerian Army, Division in Port Harcourt.
“He (the Army officer) said that a tracker of the Nigerian Army, had tracked one Mr. Vote, the community chairman of Okuoma Community, whom the Army was looking for in respect of the killings of the 17 men of the Nigerian Army, to a house in Ughelli.

“He (the commanding officer) said he and the military men had broken into the house, ransacked it, before they were informed that the house belongs to me, that he was very sorry and apologising to me on behalf of the Army.

“In my usual way and as a leader who is expected to condone as much as possible, I accepted his apology whole heartedly, but told him that I do not own a house in Ughelli, that the house he is referring to, could be my father’s.

“I went on to sympathise with the Nigerian Army over the gruesome murder of the soldiers, an action I had condemned severally the moment I heard of it in the news.

“I assured him that we will all work within our powers to avail the security agencies with any available information that would unravel the whole thing and bring the perpetrators to book.

“We ended the discussion on a cordial note. It was not long after that, I was inundated with calls from my home, Kiagbodo, telling me how the army had invaded my country home by land and by air.

“That they came in about five trucks loaded with armed soldiers numbering between 30 and 40. They broke my house, used their legs to break open all the doors in the compound including the security door to my sitting room which was locked because I reside in Abuja.

“At the same time, flying their drone within the premises. Some of them went to the buildings behind the main house, and also broke all the doors that were locked. They matched out my staff living in those buildings, including lecturers at the university; made them to sit on bare ground.

“They also broke into my late brother, Ambassador Akporode Blessing Clark’s house; a man who served this country internationally in various capacities, including as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations and Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs; as both of us share the same premises.

“They brought out his son almost naked, as the young man was taking a bath, when they stormed the house.

“All their phones were seized. The people had to identify themselves, and told them whose house it was, before they asked for my telephone number, which they said they will pass to their “oga”’, before they all departed.

“One would have expected that at this juncture, a call could have been put to the Governor of Delta State, to inform him of what happened.

“I immediately called back the commanding officer to tell him of the actions of his men. And he said he was aware, and that was why he called to apologise.

“Before continuing, let me play the devil’s advocate by stating that the army may not know that the house they went to in Kiagbodo is my country home.

“However, I feel very uncomfortable to conclude this recent incident with such theory, when I recall how men of the Tactical Squad of the Nigeria Police, attached to the Office of the Inspector General of Police, on 4th September, 2018, at about 12 noon, stormed my house in Abuja in a bus load, fully armed.

“They came with a Search Warrant from a Magistrate Court in Abuja, bearing Mrs. Helen Clark, but with the address of my house on it, that they had come to search the house; that they had information that arms from the Niger Delta were being stock piled there.

“I identified myself, and told them that there was no one named Helen Clark, living with me in the house. I spoke with the then Deputy Inspector General of Police, Operations. But they insisted on carrying out their search.

“With a very clear conscience, I allowed them to go ahead with their mission. They took their time to search every space in the compound, including my bedroom, but found nothing incriminating.

“They wrote their report to that effect. I asked to be given a copy of the report, but the men who came for the search informed me that a copy can only be given to me if I went to their office.

“I detailed two persons to accompany them to their office, but they refused to give them the copy. I was told that I had to apply formally. I asked my lawyer to apply, which he did, till date, I do not have a copy of that report.

“The incident attracted a lot of attention locally and internationally. Dignitaries from everywhere trooped to my house to visit/sympathise with me.

“Some of them were former President, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan; former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar; former Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki; Governor Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa then Governor of Delta State; Governor Seriake Dickson, then Governor of Bayelsa State; the then government of Akwa Ibom State sent a delegation of six Senator.

“Those who also visited included Chief Ayo Adebanjo, leader of Afenifere; Chief John Nnia Nwodo, then President-General, Ohaneze Ndigbo; Dr. Pogu Bitrus, President General, Middlebelt Forum, and a host of others, including a journalist who called from France, asking about the incident.

“On the evening of the Police search which was seen in some quarters as life threatening, tensions started brewing among the youths who had already started protesting in the streets, especially in the Niger Delta region.

“The then Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Kpotum Idris, dispatched a ‘high powered delegation’, of four top Police officers, led by a Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police, to come and apologise to me, stating that the police officers who came to carry out the operation, were on an illegal assignment.

“I refused to bite that bait. There is no way the young officers would have gone to a Magistrate Court to procure a Search Warrant, to come search my house for arms. But I accepted the apology for the sake of peace, as the nation, especially the South-South region was already agitating.

“However, the condition I gave them was that the young officers who came to do a ‘job’ officially assigned to them, should not be touched.

“Now, few days ago, on Saturday 23rd March, 2024, another set of state actors, this time the Army, invaded my country home, by land and air, breaking into my house that was securely locked.

“This has gone beyond coincidence and it is giving me a source of concern. By God’s grace I am one of the oldest men in this country today.

“On May 25, I will be 97 years, God keeping me alive. In about seven decades of my life, I have served this nation meritoriously in different capacities. I have served in the same cabinet with persons who later became Heads of State and Presidents, both as military and civilian.”

He warned the security agencies to exercise restraints and great caution by ensuring that he died of natural causes because there could be grave consequences if his life was terminated by their actions.

Clark said, “I want to end this write up to all concerned with what I told President Muhammadu Buhari, when my security details were withdrawn that if I die today as a result of natural occurrence, it will be a joyful celebration.

“However, if my death is linked to any dubious means by some overzealous state actors, no one can tell how far the fire will rage. This is not a threat. It is an acknowledgment of God’s mercies on me.

“Having said that, I want to appreciate the enormous responsibility on the shoulders of the Nigerian Army, who are burdened with so much internal security issues.

“It is for that reason that I want to use this medium to kindly appeal to all concerned to work assiduously to unravel what happened and bring the perpetrators to book.

“The earlier this matter is concluded the better, as it will also avail the affected communities which are almost locked down today, without adequate food and water, the chance of returning to normal life.

“I also wish to commend President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his efforts in combatting the ravaging security issues in the land, especially as it concerns the release of some of the abducted children in Kaduna State. I employ all of us to give him the necessary cooperation. This is the only country that we have.

“Again, I call on the various state actors to let me live in peace, and treat me with the kind of respect that I deserve, having served this country, and still serving even at the age of 97 years, until when it will please the Almighty God to call me home.”

APC fumes as Court bars pro-Wike lawmakers from sitting

Published

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has expressed displeasure with the court order restraining the pro-Wike lawmakers from further sitting.
Following the battle for supremacy between Wike and Fubara, the 27 pro-Wike lawmakers defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to the opposition All Progressives Congress(APC)
However the PDP, on whose platform they were elected, swifty approached the court, seeking an order declaring their seats vacant.
The Rivers State government, however, welcomed the development.
The Commissioner for Information and Communication, Joseph Johnson, said, “The law has spoken, and once the law speaks, rascality must cease.”
But the Publicity Secretary of the Rivers APC, Chibuke Ikenga, alleged judicial compromise and executive interference.
The injunction, which restrains the 25 lawmakers from holding legislative activities, followed a similar ex parte order on May 10.
In the latest ruling, Justice Wali restrained the 25 pro-Wike lawmakers “from parading and holding out themselves as members of the Rivers State House of Assembly and/or meeting/sitting at the auditorium of the House of Assembly Quarters located at off Aba Road, Port Harcourt, or at any other place whatsoever to purport to carry out the legislative business of the Rivers State House of Assembly, their legislative seats having been declared vacant, pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit.”
The judge also restrained Fubara and the Rivers State Attorney General, who were joined in the suit as the 26th and 28th defendants, respectively, “from dealing with, interfacing, accepting any resolutions, bills and/or however interacting with the first to 25th defendants in their purported capacities as members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, their legislative seats having been declared vacant with effect from December 13, 2023, pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit.”
Its Publicity Secretary, Ikenga, said the party was not surprised, alleging that the executive was procuring pronouncements outside the law.
He said, “We do know that there is an integrity question on Justice C. N. Wali. We are not unaware that they have all been compromised, particularly himself and a few others.
“They are pandering to the whims and caprices of the executive who today is their paymaster represented by the governor. So, it is expected that they will continue on that trajectory by taking decisions outside the provisions of the law.
“They are doing so for pecuniary reasons and we understand that. They have descended into the arena of politics, which is disturbing. They have nosedived integrity, they have compromised their positions of authority and behaving in an unholy manner,” he said.
Asked if he would advise the Amaewhule-led lawmakers to appeal the ruling, he said there was already a subsisting judgment by a Federal High Court.

Clark tackles Ganduje, Damagum for colluding with Wike to sabotage Rivers people

Published

on

By

Elderstatesman and the leader of the Ijaw nation Edwin Clark has accused the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Umar Ganduje and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Amb. Umar Damagum of colluding with Former Governor of Rivers State Nyesom Wike to sabotage the elected Government and Governor or Rivers State, Sir, Siminalayi Fubara
In an open letter to the duo he urged the other executive members to order.

“As a patriotic old statesman, I strongly believe that I should address this letter to you to call to order FCT Minister, Chief Nyesom Wike, because he is dancing naked in the open market in the politics of madness in Rivers State with one leg each in the two parties.
“I know both of you are fully aware and involved in the political crisis in Rivers State which is caused by Wike who is controlling the two parties in Rivers State particularly the PDP.
He advised both chairmen to withdraw from the madness of politics of Rivers State to avoid the dangerous crisis facing Rivers State, one of the most important states producing the resources used to sustain the economy of this country.

“I hope you do not forget that the International Oil Companies (IOCs) and the deep seaport of Onne are very well established in Rivers State.
“How can the Federal Government and the two main political parties allow an individual to disrupt and cause confusion, harassment of the democratically elected Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara on the guise that he alone and not the people of Rivers State made Fubara Governor, in his provocative and inciting statement?
According to him, the support given to Nyesom Wike by both party Chairmen has made him courageous enough to intimidate and anger the Rivers State Governor and Government and this is seen as an act to overthrown the duly elected Governor, which is criminal.
Finally, I am therefore appealing to you, in the interest of peace and stability in Nigeria to disassociate yourselves from the diabolical and mischievous plan by Wike for no just cause to bring down the Government of his successor, Governor Fubara.
“I strongly advice both of you to retrace your steps and take charge of your political parties in Rivers State and not leaving it for Wike who is neither PDP nor APC.”

“Nyesom Wike aggressively boasted that nobody can remove the member representing Ogu-Bolo Constituency. Therefore one is tempted what this dangerous, diabolical and mischievous politician can do to breach the constitution and cause a breakdown in law and order in the country.
“He is not in a position to amen section 109 (1g) of the constitution and he is not in a position to undermine the Supreme Court judgement which has now been firmly accepted as precedent, which binds all Courts in Nigeria.
“Listening to Wike who is a self imposed leader of the party PDP and the champion of madness in Rivers Politics is also controlling the ruling party APC by appointing a caretaker committee under the former Chief of Staff to Governor Rotimi Amaechi, Chief Tony Okocha, while he is not the legitimate chairman of APC in Rivers State.
“The legitimate Chairman Emeka Beke was suspended and was replaced with Chief Tony Okocha, because of his close relationship with the Leader of APC in the state, in person of Rt Hon Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi. “Chief Tonye Cole, the APC gubernatorial candidate in Rivers State also belongs to the elected executives. “Nyesom Wike, in order to impress the Presidency and APC in Abuja, decided to create the Chief Tony Okocha led caretaker committee with which he now deals with the APC in Rivers State with the approval of the National Chairman of APC.
“One maybe tempted to ask the National Chairman of APC why he chose to deal with a caretaker committee of APC which the Minister of FCT, Nyesom Wike had earlier presented the committee to him in the APC secretariat in Abuja before constituting it as a caretaker committee.
“But curiously, you now deal with a caretaker committee instead of the elected Chairman. I hope you are aware of the court action filed against you and APC by the elected Chairman of APC in Rivers State, Emeka Beke.
“The old APC members by law are the APC leaders because they were never removed before the illegal caretaker committee was imposed on Rivers State, who are loyalist to Wike.
“The legally constituted executives are in court, challenging the imposition of the caretaker committee on Rivers State chapter of the APC by the NWC.
“By his statements, he made it very clear that he is at work in Rivers State to intimidate, harass, disorganise the state in order to replace Governor Fubara with the former Speaker of the House of Assembly, Hon Martins Amaewhule, through impeachment. In his usual contradiction, he stated at a new year banquet on Sunday 7th January 2024, in his massive building standing tall in a large expanse of land, that this trouble between him and the elected Governor started when the Governor and others planned to remove Hon Amewhule as speaker of Rivers State house of Assembly and Wike reacted that you can’t do that to an Obiakpo son. “Meanwhile, he had held meetings with his loyal 27 members of the House to impeach the newly elected Governor of Rivers State. The House met at an ungodly hour at 7am and 23 members signed the notice of impeachment against the Governor and as part of the arrangement, the 27 members again met at the same venue on 11th December 2023 and defected en mass to APC, singing APC songs and waving APC flags and both of you were part of this wicked arrangement made by Wike.
“Indeed, that was the day the almighty Wike wanted to install an APC Government in Rivers State to show President Bola Tinubu how influential he was in Rivers State.”
